The Connecte program is a commitment initiative in which a young person wishing to carry out a "dream mission" is paired with a French-speaking organization willing to welcome young people into their structure to help, mentor and empower them.
Spearheaded by Mia, a grade 11 student at André-Piolat school, the initiative we're supporting consists in distributing meals (nutritionally sound) to people experiencing homelessness, which took place this past Saturday, April 1. The aim was also to communicate with these people and ask them questions about their diet, so as to be able to draw up a report on food insecurity.
To achieve this mission, Mia is supported by the Conseil jeunesse francophone de la Colombie-Britannique and La Boussole, which brings its expertise in homelessness-related issues and mobilizes its volunteers to accompany the distribution.
In concrete terms, Mia and other young people cooked the meals on Friday March 31 at the school, then, accompanied by a trained La Boussole team member and volunteers, Mia distributed them to Vancouver's homeless.
This project is funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Service Canada program.
