La Boussole, the organization that helps francophones in precarious situations in British Columbia.
La Boussole, Centre Communautaire Francophone is a francophone charitable organization that has been active in British Columbia for 32 years. Our mission is to help francophones in need in our province, and to meet the ever-growing needs of our members. We offer our beneficiaries a complete range of services in French to support them in their daily lives, as well as a warm community space open to all. Our ambition is to bring the community together to help those who need it most, while reducing the stigma that weighs on them.
Services & Activities
At La Boussole, we offer a full range of French-language services to support you in your day-to-day life, according to your needs and desires. Our latest news
Our Eco-Solidarity Thrift Store
Our eco-solidarity thrift store project, which came to fruition in 2022 thanks to funding from PacifiCan, administered by SDE Colombie-Britannique, Ensemble aims to sell second-hand clothing at several local markets, on our premises and, eventually, online, on its own site.
In addition to selling second-hand clothing, our social enterprise is committed to raising community awareness of environmental issues and promoting supra-recycling through monthly multidisciplinary workshops. This initiative has given a new face to La Boussole, offering ecologically-minded activities and reaching out to new audiences.
Reconnaissance Des Terres
La Boussole is located on the Coast Salish Peoples Unceded Territory; First Nations territories xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh).
Every day, our location in the Downtown Eastside confronts us with the destructive effects of colonization on indigenous nations over many generations. But, every day, we can also observe the resilience shown by these peoples despite the many obstacles, unfortunately still present. Their courage and forbearance in the face of injustice can only inspire us to seek out the best in ourselves. La Boussole wishes to be a safe and inclusive space for all, and is therefore committed to learning, supporting initiatives and relaying issues in order to participate at our own level in a more egalitarian society. While we hear a lot of talk about reconciliation in the context of the initiative launched by the Government of Canada, we would like to emphasize the need for truth, the light of which is a prerequisite for any process of appeasement. Once again, we wish to express our gratitude for being able to live and work on these lands, and our deep respect for these peoples, their territories, their cultures and their members.
