A slightly different edition for this summer 2024, as we offer you a format with a summary of the month of July and a presentation of the month of August. Another busy couple of months, thanks in no small part to our fantastic partners! I won't tell you more, but I'm thinking in particular of the forest walk thanks to TD Park, the workshop on gender issues with the Comité FrancoQueer de l'Ouest, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and the support of the Société historique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, or our Annual General Meeting. But we also have a job offer to join us. So, to make sure you don't miss out, read our two sections below. Happy reading! |

August 9 marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous People. It's an event that we feel is very important for Canada, so much of the country's history and present are marked by this issue. On this occasion, we will be highlighting our partnership with Aboriginal Front Door on our social media (a good opportunity to follow us if you haven't already done so): Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn). Beyond these more ad hoc elements, our usual activities will also be taking place: English courses, members' meetings, job offers, walking club, the FACC's InterARTif project every Wednesday, and so on. Finally, a little further afield, but also very important to put in your diaries: our traditional back-to-school party will take place on September 9 (you can already register). by clicking on this link) ! We're looking forward to seeing you there to present our activities and, above all, to meet up again after the summer! |
A look back at the highlights of June and July With a team of 11 runners at the Vancouver Half Marathon on June 23, we raised $830! Thank you to all our donors, but especially to our participants who carried our colors high and strong! How lucky we are to be surrounded by such beautiful people. |
The following day, La Boussole kicked off the week with an important event for us every year: the celebration of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Quebec's national holiday. Among other things, we were able to share Quebec delicacies (hot dogs, poutine, pancakes and maple syrup). In addition to the good food, we were given an introduction to Quebec culture, an overview of the history of St. Jean Baptiste, and the history of spoon games (which we then practiced together). Special thanks to Maurice from the Société historique francophone de la Colombie Britannique for suggesting this activity. Finally, we played a game using a wheel, with questions on Quebec culture and Saint John's Day, with prizes to be won. June was also Pride Month. An opportunity for us, in partnership with Amélia from the Comité FrancoQueer de l'Ouest (CFQO), to offer a demystification workshop on gender. A great opportunity to exchange ideas and become a better ally for the cause. CFQO also presented us this month with a beautiful Franco-Colombian pride flag. A very big thank you to this organization, with whom we always enjoy collaborating.July got off to a great start, with the auction of artist Michelle Mathias. Her work, "Graffiti Girl", sold in aid of La Boussole, raised $1000, which will go directly to finance part of one of our flagship activities: the food bank. Many thanks to her and to all those who purchased this beautiful work. |

During a 2-hour walk led by Aloïs Gallet, participants learned more about trees, indigenous land rights, climate justice, forest types and tree-to-tree communication. At the end of the walk, participants enjoyed a picnic lunch from H.A.V.E. Café, a Downtown Eastside cooking school supporting the professional reintegration of local residents. How can I use my hobbies, pet peeves and/or skills to generate ideas for a business? How can I find innovative ideas? This idea-generating workshop brought together a dozen women entrepreneurs facing mental health challenges.
