Opioid crisis: 5-year state of health emergency in the province
April 15 marked the 5th anniversary of the state of health emergency linked to the opioid crisis. Over these 5 years, more than 7,000 people have lost their lives. This unbearable situation is witnessed on a daily basis by Downtown East Side associations, of which La Boussole is a member.
Positive measures have been taken, such as the democratization of naloxone - the opioid antidote, the opening of supervised injection centers and funding for the immense work carried out by associations in the field. Other actions still need to be taken to stem the crisis and save lives: widening access to safe products, decriminalizing drug possession and facilitating access to weaning programs for those who want them.
